My 30th birthday fishing – Sydney harbour

So its my 30th birthday in just 2 weeks time, shock horror im actually getting old and will have to start being sensible I guess like getting a mortgage and stop spending so much money on fun things like sports cars I suppose.

But onto a bit of celebrating. I didn’t want to do anything big for my 30th like a large party with 30 odd people there all trying to mix with everyone when really a lot of people don’t know each other like always happens. So I decided on a small afternoons fishing trip with only my closest of friends on a fishing boat in Sydney harbour, just the guys 🙂

Finally I got something arranged, I told the guys it would involve some beers, the Sydney harbour and hopefully some fish. My actual 30th birthday is on the 17th of November but as Troyski is off travelling the world for a couple of years, I really wanted to do something before one of my best mates leaves the country.

Who came along? Chris, Damien, Kim, Troy, Vishnu, and of course me, no other half’s, guys only 🙂

I hired a shipshape boat, a scurvy dog captain called ‘Rocco’, some esky’s full of beer and food and some fishing gear and bait. We left Darling harbour just after lunchtime with some glorious sunshine and we headed out to the harbours heads and got lucky with some fish.

Below Troy, Damien and Me crack open some beers just after we jump on the boat and we were under way.

We dropped anchor, bait our lines and start to show captain ‘Rocco’ our lack of fishing knowledge and skills.

Chris was one of the first to catch one, a Rock Cod. Apparently if you boil them up and let them cool, the flesh tastes like Lobster.

Troyski caught this little baby Rock Cod then gave it a kiss and threw it back in, it died. He gave it the Troyski Ninja kiss of death!

I caught a beautiful Port Jackson shark on the small rod and line I was using (so did a couple of the others catching the same shark). It was right at the bottom, some 75 ft down so took a lot of reeling in as it was a large heavy fish for such a small rod I was using.

Here’s a video of me catching the shark filmed by Vishnu, thanks Vish!

On the way home now, lots of sea air always makes you tired.

Lollies and chocolates kept us going 🙂

Thanks for all the boys coming on the afternoons trip I had a really good fun time and it was definitely a good way to celebrate a birthday with friends and we should do it all again some time, cheers.

Home MediaCenter setup

I keep getting questions about setting up a home theatre system based around Windows Vista Media Center and I keep getting onto the subject of what it actually looks like all setup as people think it’s all mess and cables and generally not very ‘home theatre’ looking when a PC’s involved.

Well here are a couple of shots of what it looks like all setup. Since one of the photos was taken there’s a Playstation 3 been slotted in down the bottom left where the books are

P8080504.jpgThe glowing item down the bottom left is the IR transmitter for the rear wireless surround speakers, it is not visible to the human eye but picked up by the digial camera it seems.

All Sony gear so once its connected you know it will just work very well. The MediaCenter PC itself was custom built and installed by myself, im getting quite good at building these systems now.

Whats going on around here then?

If you’ve been keeping up with Beddysblog.com since I started it just over a year ago you may of noticed a distinct increase in me writing about all things on 4 wheels and a bit less about my life. Fear not I have not decided to allow my life to be taken over by cars and there is nothing else going on in my life, far from that, I’m really busy with work in the day and having fun with Sanna, Damien and my friends in the spare time I manage to get around that.

What I have been doing though is putting some time into writing about my love (as well as Sanna), my fascination of the motor industry and my entertainment, which is cars and the motoring industry in general on here more and more, as you can see I have been doing. Im trying to get some work together which is mainly around news articles on car marquee’s I find interesting and the odd review of a car here and there whenever I can get my hands on one for a day or 2 to review.

So as I said fear not my life is still going on behind the scenes having fun and when a holiday crops up to escape Sydney I’ll be posting the photos up here like normal, just  now im writing a lot about my passion in life, the motoring industry and as the UK’s EVO magazine says,

‘The thrill of driving’

A couple of Lotus Wedding shots

I was asked to dress up my car for a wedding this weekend and I was more than happy to help out. It was an amazing sunny warm Autumn morning in Sydney, just Perfect weather for a wedding you couldn’t of asked for better weather.

The colours of the cars were such amazing contrasts to each other; they looked beautiful in the sun. The wedding and reception when very well and everyone loved the cars with bridesmaids squeezing into the cars nicely with their dresses and everyone clapping and tooting their horns to the Lotus wedding convoy as it passed them by as we drove through the city 🙂

All the shiny Lotus lined up outside the wedding reception.

An interesting shot I took looking along the line, I love the colours in this shot.

 Something Old and new together.

Update – I just received a nice post wedding reception message from the Groom:

“thanks so much for yesterday. The cars looked awesome and were a hit with all the guests. I had someone come up to me after the reception saying their table was having a debate as to whether the cars were nearer in value to $100,000 or $400,000!

Hopefully we will get some great photos of the line up coming across Anzac bridge and the harbour bridge. In the last photo Beddo has posted you will notice the bride without a veil. That is because it took flight as we were coming across the harbour bridge with Angela allowing it to fly free for the photographer who was hanging out of the car in front getting photos.

Thanks again boys; we had a great day and the cars were an integral part of making it special.”

Next trackday 6 days away- im excited

My next track day is at Eastern Creek, Sydney in 6 days away now and im excited to get back on the track. Will be my third time on the track at Eastern creek so I have learned a lot of the track now in memory. Cant wait!

My dream car the Porsche 997 GT3 RS will be there, Porsche told me on the phone the other day the owner will be bringing it along like last time, cant wait to see it in person again as they are so rare, I have since found out there are about 5 in the country in this colour which is the most popular colour it seems. They are currently selling for slightly more :Porsche GT3 RS in Orangethan they were new 6 months ago.

Just re-took my VMware exam

A year and a half ago I got 76% in the VMware Certified Professional (VCP) exam the required pass level is 70%

I just got 85% J

I felt whilst taking the exam I was heading for the 90% area. I can’t believe in a year and a half I only know my VMware infrastructure 9% better, goes to show how little real world problems and thinking are applied to the exam more remembering specific information. I’d love to see a VMware design type exam where real world skills could be used more J

Cleaning night – Mothbusters video

Here’s a short video of flatmate Damien the crazy Frenchie hunting down moths in our Sydney apartment Mothbuster style!

The last week there’s been hundreds of months attacking our apartment it seems, some crazy moth mating season or something. Damien has been having great fun every evening ridding the apartment of months with his moth busting vacume cleaner! Cleaning time has never been so much fun for Damien 🙂
