Well as promised on an email to me a couple of days ago from Lotus Cars Australia/Rick Damelian’s, Jayson turned up at my work yesterday for a drive of the brand new and only Lotus Europa in the country the very same Phantom Black one that was the star of Australian International motor show 2007.
I’ve posted some photos down below and to get the only real negative point I have of the car out the way, I still don’t like the rear styling of the car but that’s just my opinion of course.
Driving the thing, well we went for a 30 minute drive all around the back streets of the South East end of the city, Kensington, Randwick over to Coogee beach zipping around some of the quieter streets in that area. I have to say it felt very much simular to the Elise/Exige to drive, I felt like the car was slighter bigger overall in width and length (even though Jayson said the width is the same I seem to remember) but handling felt 99% simular I have to say.
The same great feedback from the steering you’d come to love and expect from a Lotus and the overall feeling of being connected with the road really well from the feelings coming through the seat and steering were all still there. The suspension is slighter softer than the Elsie/Exige but to a non Lotus driver it would feel the same I’d imagine.
The exciting part in this car for me the engine. The GM sourced 2 litre turbo engine was a beauty to drive. Up shifts were particularly fun at red line with the turbo still spooled up and a shove of torque in the back as the next gear engaged. All along above 3000rpm you can hear the slight whistle of the turbo spooling around your ears but not to the level where it would be annoying and quieter than the whine of the Exige S’s supercharger for definite. Looking through the rear window into Tupperware heaven (sorry the engine bay) whilst Jayson took the helm, I enjoyed seeing the engine twist and turn on its supports as it was being revved hard and up shifted.
Would I get one, probably not as on a driving fun level it feels about the same as the Elise R/Exige abet a half second slower on the 0-100kph times but nothing too noticeable but really for me the look of the car is not as in tune with my tastes as the Elise and Exige are. I think I’ll be staying a happy Elise R customer for a while. Not to worry Jayson and Rick D’s as Jayson was proud to boast they have sold 4 Europa’s in just the first 2 days of sales! So there you go the Lotus big brother is being accepted into some peoples wallets and hearts and it’s only just come off the boat from Hethnel in England, good on you Lotus.
P.S Many thanks to Jayson for popping over to see me with the car and giving me a chance to experience it first hand, cheers.
Yes it was me that was blessed enough to receive the famous ‘Borat double kiss’ at his Sydney film premiere ands been doing the rounds up on YouTube.com hehe

P.S Yes It’s sad, it was Che’s idea to to slap on some shorts and thongs and run down to the premeier on George St.
I hope people like this, it was a bit of a experiment and was an idea that come into my head after watching the IMAX documentery ‘Chronos’ one evening which shows incredable stop motion form around the world. If theres positive feedback i’ll go to work on doing some better quality ones of the city using a better quality camera setup. The photos were taken every minute for 24 hours from 12 midnight to 12 midnight which made up a total of 1700 odd photos!

The hardest thing was compressing it down to size, learning what video compression technologies are good in what areas of movement, still learning this 🙂
Hope you enjoy
Well I finally did it, I’ve finally ordered my new play thing the Lotus Elise R.
Last Sunday I woke up very nervous knowing I had booked to goto the dealer and finally make that decision between the Elise and the Exige. After countless bits of advise from everyone saying “if your living in Australia I have got to go for the convertible!” and that all starting to make sense I ordered the Elise R.
The car itself I specced during the week after going all over the net looking at photos and advice on the options for the car and in the end I have specced it with Polar Blue paint, Black wheels with Black rear under tray, Touring Pack and Sports Pack with the LSD. The light colour of the Polar Blue paint I thought looked really contrasting compared to the other darker colours when paired with the darker black wheels and Black rear under tray. It was this picture from a US spec Lotus Elise in Polar Blue that really stood out and made me realise it was the colour I wanted to go for:
As for the other options, well the Touring pack, add’s a better Stereo, full leather interior, electric windows and other more plush and soft to the touch friendly interior items.
The sports pack, well seeing as this is a race spec of the Elise hence the ‘R’ in its model name so has the Lotus tuned Toyota engine with variable lift and timing its designed to go on the track which of course I will be doing 😉 The sports pack, gives stiffer race suspension, an in-built rollover hoop, and the correct internal struts to mount a race legal 4 or 6 point harness.
Lastly the LSD (Electrically controlled Limited Slip Differential), well if you own a 4WD and you take it off road you’ll know exactly the benefits of a LSD, if you don’t, it’s a advanced traction device as part of the rear differential that maximises power to the road during hard cornering and is found in all race cars and serous off road 4×4’s. If you want to know more on how a LSD works here’s a good site on the topic http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm
So the long wait starts here! It takes approx 3 weeks for them to hand build the car to my chosen spec then 2 months to ship it from the midlands of England where the Lotus factory is to me here in sunny Sydney, Australia.
Oh the weeks will drag on, so I have decided to try my best to forget all about putting my order in until closer to the time it arrives, Yeah Right!
I was bored at work again today, randomly going off to websites for a couple of minutes of time like you do in an excuse to get any from the highly interesting work focused thing your supposed to be doing at that time and I came across the Internet Archive.
It’s basically a site which stores snapshots in time of websites around the world if you’re lucky enough that your website gets archived by the service. Well a few of my old websites did! My old music site, my personal site e.t.c they got deleted many many years ago. I found it really interesting to see what I wrote about my life from those years ago.
Unfortunately the Internet Archive doesn’t archive the pictures or links to the files on the site but you can fill in the blanks and imagine what’s there 🙂
My Photo website – 2003
This was my last site I did before I started this blog up. It was bascally a colletion of all my photos on one website, took ages to write and update, hence im onto a much easier blog now.
My old Music website – 2001
This was all about the songs I made and DJ’ing back in the days. All my old music I made, wow this really took me back! I was so proud of all the music I made and then it was all lost when my computer crashed, this made me start backing up my computers finally 🙁 A small section on when I played on the Radio both via the Net and on FM radio up in Redhill London was on there. Lastly all the hellos to my old friends from the Internet I used to talk to for hours, this brought back some memories alright. Click on the menu bar in the top left to goto the differnt pages.
My old Personal website – 1999
This was I think the 2nd website I ever made and I really went to town on it, well on hours spent makign the thing at least 🙂 Back in 98 when I started the site, the net was a much much unknown and complicated
Here are some of my favourite images I have taken over the past 2 years. They are of various places I have been to around the world and all have ended up as my wallpaper at some point in time. All the photos were taken on my Olympus digital compact set to manual mode using a variety of focus’s, exposures & colour balances e.t.c.
I love to try and get a natural feel of plants, tree’s and landscapes through photos and sometimes they come out, I think really great, hope you enjoy the following examples.

Being the resident SHE web dood I’ve been updating the SHE website with the design of the flyer e.t.c and I cut up a video and uploaded it to the site also from Graham’s camcorder. It made me realise what great parties we have sometime’s 🙂 Graham and I rush around (more Graham I admit) and get all stressed before the event (again more by Graham than me I admit) then by the time it kicks off all is forgotton and the drinks, thanks and happy faces keep rolling along =)
Have a look at the streaming video here: http://www.shesydney.com/video/Rooftop_Party_Soul%20Central_Jan%2006.wmv what a party!
So the Exige in ‘Chrome Orange’ or
the Elise 111R in ‘Magnetic Blue’?
which one, ahhhhhhh.
Here are all the photos from our weeks holiday to NZ’s south island. I have never been to NZ before and Sanna had only been to the North island when she was a much younger with her mum so we were really excited. A week to the snow, in a really peaceful location, the perfect way to unwind from work for a week 🙂
The drive down from Christown to Wanaka in the South island. It was a 6 hour drive in our little Red Ford Focus which was not a bad little car at all to drive.
One of the beautiful lakes one the drive down
Horay this is what we came to NZ for, skiing!!!!!! oh and some boarding 🙂
This is the ski resort called Cadrona and the locals call it flat white, you can see why.
Sanna looking like a dork
and me looking like a dork too
After a hard days boarding I found that Chilli beer warmed me back up again.
Sanna tried it and she called me a bastard haha, I didnt make her try it 😉
This little baby is the HOTTEST chilli sauce i’ve had in my LIFE! Im a big fan of chilli sauces but this stuff is just pain in a bottle! When I got back to Sydney I ordered a bottle ASAP from www.deathsauce.com.au. They even say you have to sign a disclaimer because of the damage with misuse it could do before they will compete the order hahaha, oh it hurts!
Sanna back on the slopes
The lake in Wanaka. Wanaka sits on the edge of a huge and very cold lake. The middle of the lake is hundreds of meters deep, some of the deepest lakes in the world are in the area.
Hairy cows or as the Scottish say ‘hairy coo’s’ doubt there that cuddley though
On the 3rd day it was raining on and off so we deceided to visit Queenstown which is the only city in the South of the South island of NZ. This was a pretty little stream that runs under most of the city. They say city but it really was tiny and hardly many people around either.
Quite funny to find a statue of a Kiwi with a sheep there as every aussie takes the mick out of Kiwi’s and there love of sheep and here they have a whole statue of a man with a sheep 🙂
The main Mall! and its heaving with people!!
The same stream again in the center of the city, the whole climate, tree’s e.t.c remind me so much of north Wales.
Sanna being friendly to the locals
Ah the happy couple in Queenstown. As you can see its the smallest city i’ve ever seen. All the buildings are nestled aroudn whatever flattish land they can build on. At the top of the peak on the left is where the famous sport Bungy was invented. Mr A J Hackett threw himself off the peak with some rubber attached to his legs years ago and invented the sport. Now in Queenstown there are about 3 bungy sites to choose from and tourists doing it all the time.
I think this is quite a good photo of Sanna, I took it with her not knowing it was coming I just shoved the camera in her face, bang hehe
Me taking a leak in the park, takes strong muscles to do that 🙂
You can see from looking down on some of the hills where some of the landscapes from the Lord of the Rings was filmed in this area. It looks like Bilbo Baggin’s could jump out from one of the hills in the distance.
Day 4 and we went over to Treble Cone ski resort which is aimed more to intermediates and advanced with only 2 Green (beginner) runs on the mountain. This sign marks the beginning of the very long and windy gravel track up to the ski resort at the top of the mountain. Very different from skiing in europe where the village is just below the pistes.
After a few runs to explore the mountain we caught a chair lift to the highest we could get to, then walked the last couple of hundred meters vertical which took 20 minutes up to the summit at 2100 meters. We carried all our equipment up with us so we skied/boarded from the summit down the side of the mountain back to the pistes below.
Amazing views from the summit looking down on other mountains.
A big lump of chocolate in the valley. Later in the week we walk all over this and find in the middle of it a lake called Diamond lake
Day 5 and we went back to Cadronna ski resort for the ‘Cadronna Coke Cola games’ bascally lots of ski and snowboard races and competitions over 3 days with lots of CRAZY people jumping motorbikes and skimobiles in the snow, the skimobiles jumping were pretty impressive.
Sanna wants this dog to be a Proplan fed doggie but it definatly says Hills science diet on his tummy badge.
These are actally parrots! they are the only alpine parrots in the world and live in the snowy mountains in the south island. TYhere called kee-har’s I seem to remember as thats meant to be what they sound like
and they pull absolutly everything to bits! foam padding, windscreen wipers, anything manmade they can get there beaks into. They do a lot of damage to peoples cars sometimes.
This was the beginning of our walk up and around Diamond lake on our last day, the landscape was beautiful it was a nice change after 5 days of solid sking and boarding although there were some really steep climbs involved.
This is Diamond lake and it was so dark a mystical looking, it was also freezing!
Absolutely stunning scenery from the top of this walk!
Just before we went to get on the plane to head back to Australia we went on the famous Shotover Jet boat, flying down the Shotover river in just 10 cm of water depth, it was so fast! Have a look at the website here at http://www.shotoverjet.com/ for some photos and video of it! So this is Sanna looking kinda alright in her ‘spray suit’
and me looking like a dork in mine. We really needed them though as you get soaked. Jee’s it’s scary when you go down the canyons only cm’s away from the rocks! I was kinda shouting and Sanna was just laughing, a perfect way to end the holiday 🙂
a 4 hour flight later and were back in good old Sydney, ah home sweet home.
Well this is it im starting writing my own blog, my online diary if you will, so lets get on with it 🙂 Many times i’ve thought about writing my own online blog as a kind of easy to update online diary of my life and with the added benefit of using it as a kind of dated and easy to look at photo album too, hey you may even see the odd movie pop up now and then.
The whole idea of starting up a blog came about quite easily. Writing emails back to my family and my friends in England to tell them of your life can be hard to find time to do it. Emails can be such an annoying thing, you want to write a long record of everything you’ve been upto, especally as im having so much fun living in Sydney but once you’ve written out the email and sent it you have to do the same for the next friend you want to stay in contact with, and the next one and the next one e.t.c.
So whats the solution? well you can copy and paste the large chunks of email about your life to other emails. This makes you feel cheap that you are basically writing an email and kinda CC’ing every other friend in the world, so you taylor each email more to that friend of yours. Now your nearly back to the frist way of writing an email to everyone you know in the world and taking days to do it grrrrrrr.
So along comes the idea of the ‘blog’, whats a ‘blog’? well as taken from a quick google the offical answer is
Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal (or newsletter) that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or the Web site.
Well there you go, and as I update the blog im known as a ‘Blogger’, sad init 🙂
So the whole blog idea, wow, an online diary, I can do all this keeping my friends and family updated on my life in once place and with the software i’ve installed on this websver I just bought, with just a few clicks 🙂 I have to say though the software I installed ‘MovableType’ took me a week to install and about 10 emails back and forth from my web server providers! They even had to contact guys in the States to install Perl modules to get it fully working, coming from a Windows administrator/conultant background that part was beyond me. So here we have it all fully working and capoable of running hundreds of blogs from the one webserver, maybe Sanna will want her own blog one day, who knows.
Righto thats the intro over and into blogging heaven (hopefully) 🙂
See you in the future!
