New Lotus Elise

I’m lucky to have bought my 3rd Lotus 2 months ago, just haven’t remembered to put some photos up. After my old Blue 2007 Elise R and my brief ownership of a Black 2007 Exige S, this one is a Daytona Blue 2015 Elise S Club Racer.

image

Here we are picking up the new car, how exciting to unwrap a new car, very exciting and very lucky we are.

image

All shiny and new and so Blue looking.

image

This is the current quickest Elise model with a mid mounted1.8 litre supercharged Toyota engine. Power is  approx 260hp which isn’t a huge amount, (my Audi has 420hp) but weighing about 900kg’s it has a very quick acceleration of 0-100kph (0-60mph) in around 4.3 seconds.

image

The Daytona Blue paint looks quiet different in person to the photos, it is kind of a half matt/half shiny look. The colour receives a lot of compliments from passers by. We were going to go for Red but chose the Blue as soon as we saw it in the showroom.

Sanna and I are both very happy to own a Lotus again. They are a really fun car. THey can be a bit expensive to buy but after the inital purchase they are very cheap for petrol due to the small engine, and the parts are quite cheap, servicing is just a little bit more than a everyday car.

image

image

Thanks to my mum for the ‘Petrol head’ t-shirt 🙂 suits me.

image

As you can see the Elise is a real hit with friends kids 🙂

image

Now if only my friend Cam could sit in the car, he’s so tall he can’t even see out haha.

Sanna and I look forwards to some Lotus driving adventures before the baby comes early Feb.

2 day ‘6 foot track’ trek

Now this was a real challenge! I was invited to do a 44km overland trek from Katoomba in the Blue Mountains to Jenolan caves carrying all equipment, 14kg each with 6 Frenchies 🙂

image

Ben was the organiser and he packed food for us all, as light as possible for two days of hard trekking.

image

image

image

Ready to go 5 Frenchies  and 1 english man.

image

All looking confident at the entry gate, we didn’t know how difficult it would be.

image

First it was a very steep downloads path.

image

image

It soon got to flat sections but it was very varied in the terrain.

image

image

image

image

Grassy rolling hills lead to a…

image

Winery that we were not expecting, so of course being lots of Frenchies we decided to make a 1 hour stop for wine tasting and a cheese platter. Of course we bought a bottle of white and bottle of red wine to take with us, we didn’t care it was more kilos to carry.

image

Some Aussie Bush wildlife and echidna .

image

Here we come to the famous Six Foot Track swing Bridge you have to cross to get across a river.

image

image

The bridge Rocked around a lot when you crossed and swayed  as you walked, the view was excellent on the bridge though.

image

image

It was really hot around 30 degrees and carrying so much weight we really needed to cool down, so we had to strip down and jump in the water and have a swim, it was a really refreshing.

image

image

image

image

As I got back to my bag to get changed back into clothes, just 1 metre next to my bag was this snake . We weren’t sure what it was but later after the trip discovered it was a brown snake, which is the second most poisonous snake in the world.

image

It was not afraid of us at all, it kept slowly slipping it’s way towards us as if it was the boss of the land.

image

Hooray we reached the overnight camp site after a really hot days walk.

image

The campsite was in a little valley, really cooled down nicely which was really good after such a hot day, and as you can see was very remote, quiet and peaceful.

image

This is what the locals call a ‘lazy wombat’, basically a dead womat being attacked by a thousand flies, slowly being eaten. it stunk so bad!

image

image

image

Dinner consisted of wine from the earlier winery, plus 3 othwr wines and French sausage, plus lots of other alcohol types including Johnnie Walker Black Label and bourbon and re-hydrated food which wasn’t that bad.

image

image

Beginning of the day 2 trek. Day 1 was 20 km’s, day 2 would be 24 approx km’s.

image

There is some beautiful green and bushy scenery that beginning of day 2. It was nice to prepare for a very long uphill most of the morning of day 2.

image

image

image

Beautiful flower Meadow out in the middle of nowhere.

image

Lunch stop day 2, there was a freshwater tank here which is excellent for us to fill up. Day 2 was just as hot as day one, 30 degrees, very hard to carry a 15 kg backpack.

image

The final downward track to the end, only 1 kilometre to go at this point.

image

So close now we could almost taste the beer.

image

We made it! 44 km’s over 2 days of very rough ground carrying a lot of weight, we should all be proud of ourselves!

image

A really well deserved beer at the end tasted like Liquid Gold.

image

Thank you to Ben for organising the trek, it was very well organised with all the supplies, thank you to everyone I shared this experience with.

Weekend in Mudgee wine country

image

Sanna booked a lovely weekend away to Mudgee wine country for my birthday. It is 3 hours drive north west of Sydney inland. It’s a small wine region with smaller family owned wineries vineyards compared to the Hunter valley.

We drove though the blue mountains on the ‘Bell line of road’ it was a great drive I’ve done in my old Lotus’ in past years so brought back some memories.

Sanna booked to stay on a farm with lots of animals but the interesting point was we stayed in an old train from Sydney!

image

image

image

Here you can see all the old Sydney stations the train used to call at.

image

The inside of the train was done out very comfortably and very family organised with kids beds down one end and lots of toys.

image

The countryside views were very nice, typical of rural NSW.

image

We got a bit lost and had to do a few dirt road km’s in the new Loti, ooops. All the locals loved the new Loti.

37th birthday dinner

image

Thanks to my lovely wife for surprising me for a dinner with friends at Darling Harbour’s Meat & Wine Co.

Joining me from left to right was Ali, Troy, me, Sanna, Damien, Brendon, Sam and Steve.

The trio of ribs, Beef,  Lamb and Pork with a glass of Red were amazing as always.

Newcastle weekend trip

Sanna and I planned a simple weekend trip in the new Lotus to Newcastle North of Sydney where our friends live.

image

We went via the back way through all the twisty roads to test the new car out and stopped at a couple of vineyards.
Here’s my lovely wife and me.

image

When we got to Newcastle we met at Easton’s house and he has a series 2 Elise so we were car nerds and compared all the small differences between the series 2 and 3 Lotus Elise.

image

On Sunday we went for a drive to  place called Morissette just South of Newcastle where there are a lot of Kangaroos just roaming about and you can feed them.

image

This one had a baby Joel which was cute.

image

Watch a Video of me feeding a Roo here:

Trying to park the car in the shade from the 30 degree heat. We had to have the air con on full power.

image

Lastly we went to a spot where a power station releases all its water into the sea and it’s popular for sharks, but we didn’t see any.

Dinner at Cafe Sydney

image

Sanna’s birthday dinner at her favourite restaurant Cafe Sydney at circular quay.

The food was excellent as always and the company even better 🙂

I had beef for a main and Sanna has lamb both with duck fat roasted potatoes.

image

image

For dessert I had a layered torte with coffee ice cream, and Sanna had a salted caramel slice with banana fritters and chocolate ice cream.
